Riding a scooter can be fun and exciting. However, with anything there are certain rules that should be followed and safety precautions that should be taken before the activities begin. The following are 5 tips on how to use a scooter properly:

1. Put On A Helmet

Whether you have a motorized scooter or a push foot scooter, wearing a helmet should always be your first priority. A helmet can be the difference between life and death so make sure you have one on your head.

2. Check Wheels And Accessories

If your scooter is motorized you need to complete an inspection each and every time you think about riding. Check the tires, lights, brakes, and level of your fluids. This will prevent you from having an accident because something failed.

3. Give Yourself Proper Following Distance

For motorized scooters give yourself a full car’s length between you and the next vehicle. Cars can stop very quickly and you may not have time to maneuver your scooter if you are too close. Be safe and stay back a little bit for your own protection.

4. Adhere To Proper Motor Vehicle Laws

Just because you are on a scooter and it feels good does not mean you are invincible. Traffic laws were made for a reason which is mostly to protect you and the other people on the road. Use your turn signals when you are turning, go the assigned speed limits, and do not invite yourself to races against cars. Remember you do not have 2,000 pounds of metal around you. You can get hurt very easily so be safe!

5. Consider Other Alternatives In Bad Weather

In cases of severe rain and other troublesome weather, consider taking another mode of transportation or not going out at all. It will not hurt to stay in the house for a while.
